N.J. man found guilty in beer bottle attack on Super Bowl Sunday

A man who attacked a worker at a bar with a beer bottle on Super Bowl Sunday has been convicted by a jury.
Junior Suriel-Gonzalez, 38, of Manville, was found guilty of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and the disorderly persons offense of simple assault, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said. The verdict was returned on Monday following a week-long trial.
Suriel-Gonzalez was at a bar in Manville on Feb. 11 of this year, which was Super Bowl Sunday. After a bar employee ordered him to leave the establishment, Suriel-Gonzalez attacked the worker with a beer bottle, swinging it at the person’s head, authorities said.
He was eventually removed from the bar and left the scene in a vehicle, officials said.
He was arrested the next morning by officers from the Manville Police Department.
The extent of the employee’s injuries was not clear.
Suriel-Gonzalez will be sentenced on Jan. 10, 2025.
